For thousands of years, humans have harvested fur-bearing animals for food, clothing, and population management. Furbearers are now an under-utilized renewable resource, despite the social and cultural importance to those that rely on them for sustenance and even income. As long as sufficient habitat exists and ethical hunting and trapping practices are followed, furbearers can be harvested without disrupting the balance of nature.
