Identity theft is a crime in which someone fraudulently and illegally uses someone else’s personal and identifiable information, such as a driver’s license or Social Security number, for the purposes of impersonating that individual and/or as a means of obtaining money or credit.

People from nearly all generations, regions, and backgrounds have been victims of identity theft. This can lead to serious, long-term consequences – consequences difficult to fix.
